Dr. Richard Wathne received his MD degree from UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, where he was elected to the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. From 1989 to 1990 he performed his surgical internship at New York University/Bellvue Hospital in New York City. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency in 1994 at the renowned Hospital for Joint Diseases and Orthopaedic Institute, New York, New York, where in his final year he was Chief Resident and received multiple academic awards. From 1994 to 1995, he performed a fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver.
Dr. Wathne is board certified in orthopaedic surgery with a current Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Idaho Orthopaedics Society. He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons, the Idaho Medical Association, and the Southeastern Idaho Medical Society. His specialties include rotator cuff repair, treatment of shoulder instability, ACL reconstruction, meniscal and articular cartilage surgery, joint reconstruction, and common sports injuries.
