Care Philosophy
I firmly believe in client center and solution focused care that is trauma focused. I use the client experience to help guide the session and interweave my insight only as needed to facilitate insight. I believe in being available for my clients while holding boundaries on my time, but I do not want there to be a barrier of superiority. Text messaging channels and making space for sessions is important for clients to feel cared for.
About Me
I am nearly 60. That seems old when I read it. My theoretical framework is rooted in the idea that all behaviors and distress are create by deep held beliefs and our behaviors are attempting to meet core need. To create change we must address the unconscious beliefs that are driving our behavior. I have been doing behavioral change work since 1991. Since getting my masters degree in 2006 I have focused on change from the inside out. Meaning that CBT, DBT, and any other behavioral therapy alone does not lead to lasting change. I have been married since 1990 and my wife is also a therapist. We have raised 5 children. We were foster parents for several years. For the first 10 years of my career I was a felony probation and parole officer. This informed much of my theoretical perspective as I saw people come onto probation for felony charges, but then discovered a client who was acting out of trauma and chaos in life, more than being criminal. I am a writer, teacher, professional speaker, and I love to help people change.
